Be Genki Serenity Hand Cream

Packaging

Be Genki has been around for eons. Well, maybe not eons, but for a hefty amount of time, and I don’t think their packaging has changed, and for good reason. It is colourfully clinical, the kind of packaging that looks professional but with a pop of personality.

The main components are cardboard and glass – not plastic, which makes me happy because, even if most plastic is recyclable these days, it still leeches hormone disruptors into our bodies and is a b*tch to break down when it is eventually tossed away.

Be Genki has supplied us with a little plastic paddle with which to scoop the cream onto our paws with. Now I am hardly a germ-a-phobe (technical term), but with natural products it does pay to be a little more hygienic as they don’t have killer (literally) preservatives, the kind that pretty much nuke your skin every time you apply. So I give the paddle a wee little thumbs up.

BeGenki-HandCream

Product

Be Genki products are based on aromatherapy, and there are four blends available: Vitality, Sensuality, Tranquility and Serenity. I trialled Serenity, which is supposed to help calm – it definitely had it’s work cut out for it!
The first big plus is the texture – it is thick (but not too thick), which I love as it doesn’t run everywhere. It isn’t greasy and soaks in really well, so in approximately 3 seconds after application you can go about your business. Nourishing – tick. Skin softening – tick.

The pure essential oils (no synthetic fragrance oils in these babies) are a lovely blend of Neroli, Rose Otto, Rosewood, Palmarosa and Bergamot. It is a floral citrus, and during the “drydown” you can smell the rose, which is so soft a beautiful! I would love to get the Serenity body cream – it is not at all overpowering and leaves you enveloped in a very gentle cloud of yummy-ness! This hand cream is perfect for your bedside table – which is where mine is now. And it really does have a calming quality, whether it is just psychological or not.

Now, the formulation contains 27 ingredients of healthful and nurturing natural essential oils and plant butters (like mango – mmmm!), but it does contain four ingredients that are considered “synths” (synthetics). These are silicone oils, PEG 100 Stearate, and Disodium EDTA. Not all synths are harmful, and in this case these rate quite low on the toxic scale, so I feel that compared to you average hand cream, this one is a winner.

Cost/Usage

A little goes a long way, and used nightly I think this 60ml jar would last me two-and-a-half months, more in summer, which makes it about 40 cents p/use. Small price for healthy, soft hands!
