Considering how much we lick our lips during the day it makes complete sense to make sure your lip product of choice is non-toxic. Enter the celebrity favourite, and Aussie uber-glamour brand, Vani-T.
Originally renowned for their range of non-toxic tanning products, Vani-T have long since provided a solid range of natural cosmetics called Krush Minerals. I was the lucky duck to get to try one of their newest lip glaze colours: Negligee.
It comes in a silver cardboard box, but the product itself comes in a nifty little plastic tube (like a mini-paint tube) with a kind of holographic strip on it. I love the little brush applicator; it has a twist-and-paint function, which is handy and mess-free.
Vani-T Mineral Lip Glaze has a creamy consistency and comes in 15 different shades and colours, some sparkly (but not tacky sparkly), some matt, some shiny. I have both Negligee (one of the new “Barely There” line of shades), which is a sheer nude pink-brown, and Bombshell, which is a sheer lolly pink with a little sheen. Honestly I don’t think of them as Lip Glazes, because they don’t have that glazed-icing shine that I imagine a lip glaze to have. I would say they are more of a Lip Crème, and you can change it to suit your look: a little gives you the sweetest whisper of colour; a lot gives you rich, creamy pigment. I prefer a hint of colour, anything more and it feels a little thick for my liking. It smells delicious, kind of floral-with-vanilla, with the deep moisturizing effect lasting a good half-day after application.
As far as ingredients are concerned, the majority of the ingredients are direct from nature (including orchid extract, aloe, pearl powder, vanilla, beeswax and coconut oil), but one sounds a bit dubious – polybutane (a plasticizer made from petroleum oil). It also contains phenoxyethanol as a preservative, which seems quite common now as it has been hailed the safer alternative to parabens. It is derived from natural ingredients, but the die-hards may not like this one in their skin care or beauty products…I thought it best noted. Just don’t eat it.
To be honest, I really love Vani-T products, and the majority of their ingredients are absolutely natural. Although the Lip Glazes have a couple of questionable ingredients they are by far much safer and way less toxic than your average lip product, and if you prefer to be a bit Zen and “middle-path” about the issue I wouldn’t beat yourself up about it too much. It is a great lip product.
Cost / Usage
So worth the price! Not only can it multi-task (a liquid blush for when you travel), but also it lasts a long, long time. It is a great price for a brand that is of great quality, primarily all natural, a celeb fave, and Australian.
