The latest brand to think outside the square and bring us an eco alternative to a product that would otherwise take a significant amount of time to break down is PaperMate. Yes, that’s right…the humble pen has gone biodegradable!
Basically, these pens are made from corn which is a natural and renewable resource. Technically, it isn’t as simple as writing with a corn cob dipped in ink, the corn sugar is used to create Mirel which can be used in place of traditional plastics.
When you have finished with your pen simply take it apart and put it in your backyard or compost and it will happily go back into the environment within about a year. With the amount of pens in every office and household, imagine the positive impact this could have on landfill if we all used these instead!
The Gel Biodegradable Pens from PaperMate may be green (or blue), but they are also really lovely to write with. There is no clotting or blotching and they are comfortable to grip onto. Honestly, even if these pens weren’t eco I would still love to write with them, but the fact that you can put them in your backyard makes them so much cooler than your average quill and ink.
Ball Pen RRP: $2.99
